Characters and Dubbing

It was another great week as I finished up my “Character Playbook” class and performed the final, as well as some dubbing homework online.

Saturday was the fourth and final “Character Playbook” class with Voice One. It was the culmination of each actor creating characters based off of certain elements, and it was so fun! Before I started the class, I had my own “playbook” of voices I wanted to bring to life and it was so fun to use those with the prompts given in class. We had to fill out a profile for each character, from likes/dislikes, life outlook, voice tone, accents, etc.! It really helped me mentally establish who they are and how they would talk. Then we had to write three sentences to make a line for the character, with actions, emotions and intention included, and perform them for the class, teacher and guest director.

It was thrilling to voice the characters, get feedback on each read and refocus to voice them again. It was good hearing the specific feedback and I’ll take it with me to grow and adapt my performance and characters. I had a lot of good variety in voices! I’m looking forward to taking this knowledge and having it help me in my next one-on-one coaching session with my coach Garnet in preparation for my character/video game demo!

I finished up my first dubbing homework assignment with Transperfect and their MediaNext program. I got an 18/20 which is stellar! Volume and consistency, along with character performance is very crucial for dubbing and I was pleased to get good marks and some things to work on too! I’m heading to the next step in the program, which relates more to character/animation dubbing so I’m very excited to begin!

Have a great week!
