A busy November weekend
I’m feeling very energized after my voiceover weekend full of training!
It kicked off Friday afternoon when I hopped on my one-on-one dubbing session with Fannie Brett-Rabault and her colleague Maxime. We connected through audio and she directed me through a foreign language film where I had to match lip sync and emotion of the original character. It was a challenge but a very fun time! The clip was about five minutes, then Maxime edited it and played back my version, and it was so neat to see my voice substituted for the actress’s voice. I’m looking forward to the next session I can do with them.
Then Saturday morning started off with my Universal Voice Talent coach’s workshop, where I got to perform a script of my choosing. I picked a squirrel character and pitched my voice high, adding in some physicality and anxiety, as the squirrel didn’t know it was a squirrel in the script! After hearing some other great reads from fellow students, the legendary voice actor Dave Fennoy joined the call and we got to ask questions about his career and hear great VO wisdom from his many years in the business. He told us to “never give up on our dreams!”
My Voice One character class 3 of 4 started right after that, and we worked on creating our fourth and fifth characters, which will be performed at final. I love how confident I’m feeling after each of my training sessions. One of my favorite attitudes about class is how we SHOULD try things that could fail, and how that will help us get to the right point in our acting. With this in mind, I commit more to my characters and want to go more all-out, not as nervous about messing up or feeling silly. I’m really excited about the final characters I created and during this week I’ll write lines for them to perform at the final which is this Saturday!
Today is Sunday and I finished up my StudioNEXT dubbing training online, which took about 2 hours. I really like the platform and find it easy and fun to use. I submit my homework and I’m looking forward to seeing my grade and the next step in the schooling.
I got a lovely 3 mile walk in and already have a gig lined up for this week! Can’t wait to see what else the week brings. Make it a great one!
